There was a time when I believed I had lost everything that made me... me.
Before my life changed, I would have described myself as a badass, podium-chasing ultra-distance trail runner and road cyclist. I was a fast-moving, high-energy, challenge-driven woman embracing life as a new empty nester. For more than ten years, I was always chasing the next finish line, the next adventure, the next challenge.
Then one day, the merry-go-round stopped.
I was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation, followed by Fibromyalgia, and later Degenerative Disc Disease. The body I had always relied on suddenly had limits I had never imagined. Today, my athletic world has been replaced with a few gentle walks each week.
The hardest part wasn't losing my athletic ability.
It was losing my autonomy.
For the first time in my life, I felt as though I was no longer making the decisions. My health seemed to dictate everything—my career, my relationships, my fitness, my finances, where I lived, and even how I spent my days. I hadn't chosen this path. It felt as though life had been taken out of my hands.
For nearly seven years, I grieved that loss. I was angry. I mourned the life I thought I was supposed to have.
Looking back now, I can see that something much deeper was happening.
I had kept myself so busy that I never truly had the chance to listen to who I was.
Being forced to slow down became an invitation to heal—not only my body, but also my mind and spirit.
It was during this chapter of my life, after moving to Nova Scotia, that I was introduced to Shawn Leonard's Spirit Talker Tribe. I had the privilege of mentoring under Shawn for two years, and it became the beginning of a journey I never could have planned.
Looking back, I don't believe Spirit suddenly arrived in my life.
I believe Spirit had always been there.
It was a slow unfolding. A relationship that quietly deepened over time.
Like many people, I had always experienced little nudges, quiet inner knowings, and that gentle voice in the back of my mind that would whisper, "Pay attention." I simply assumed everyone experienced life that way.
The difference between then and now isn't that Spirit suddenly started speaking.
The difference is that I learned to listen.
Today, I trust those quiet impressions. I understand what they are, and I honour them. Whether you call it Spirit, Source, your Guides, or simply your intuition, I believe those gentle whispers are always available to us.
Learning to trust them has changed my life.
As I continued to heal, another realization slowly found its way into my heart.
Perhaps life wasn't happening to me.
Perhaps it was happening for me.
At the time, I couldn't see it. Looking back now, I believe there was a bigger plan unfolding—one I couldn't yet understand.
For years, I believed my cognitive changes had taken something precious away from me. As an investigator, my career depended on remembering details, asking questions, and connecting the dots. Memory wasn't just important—it was essential.
Then something extraordinary happened.
As I stepped into my work as a spiritual psychic medium, I discovered I didn't need to remember anything.
My role wasn't to search for answers.
My role was to receive them.
Instead of wondering whether a message came from my own thoughts or from Spirit, I learned to trust what was gently placed into my awareness and share it with the person sitting in front of me.
What I once believed was a loss... became one of my greatest gifts.
I no longer see my journey as one of chaos.
I see it as the path that led me Home.
It taught me to trust.
It taught me to listen.
And it taught me that sometimes the life we never would have chosen becomes the life we were always meant to live.
Perhaps the most surprising part of this journey is that none of it was ever part of my plan.
When I joined Shawn Leonard's mentorship program, it was never because I wanted to become a psychic medium.
In fact, if someone had told me that one day I would be doing this work professionally, I probably would have laughed at them.
I have always been deeply spiritual. I was fascinated by intuition, by Spirit, and by the unseen world. My curiosity led me to Shawn's mentorship because I simply wanted to learn more. I wanted to understand what was possible.
Becoming a psychic medium was never part of my plan.
Little did I know...
It was part of Spirit's.
Looking back now, I sometimes laugh and think Spirit had other ideas.
Let's just say...
I was fast-tracked.
I believe we are all born intuitive.
Before we learn what the world expects of us, we remember Home. Whether you call it Heaven, Source, the Other Side, Creator, or something else entirely, I believe we all arrive here still carrying that connection.
As children, many of us talk to our imaginary friends. We share things that adults can't explain. We know things we shouldn't know. Then, somewhere along the way, we begin to realize we don't quite talkthinkfeel like everyone else. Sometimes we're encouraged to stop talking about it. Sometimes we simply stop because everyone else seems to have forgotten.
Some people never lose that connection.
Many of us simply forget it's there.
I don't believe intuition is a gift given to a select few. I believe it's something we all carry within us. For some, it whispers. For others, it speaks more clearly. Either way, I believe Spirit is always gently inviting us to listen.
People often ask me how it all began.
About six months into mentoring with Shawn Leonard, I had reached the point where I was supposed to begin practicing readings. If I'm being honest, I was discouraged. The month before, I had practiced psychometry using my dad's wallet, hoping to receive something meaningful.
Nothing came.
I wondered if perhaps I just wasn't meant to do this.
Then one ordinary day, I walked into my local post office.
It was a place I had visited for several years. I knew the women who worked there, but only as familiar faces behind the counter. One day, as I walked through the door, my entire body was covered in tingles—almost like goosebumps or fever chills. I had been experiencing them for months, but I still didn't understand what they meant.
Then, as clearly as if someone had whispered it into my heart, I felt prompted to ask the woman a very unexpected question.
"Do you believe in psychics and mediums?"
Her face immediately lit up.
"Oh yes."
I asked if she knew Shawn Leonard.
She smiled and told me she had attended his shows.
When I mentioned that I had been studying under Shawn, she replied,
"Then you must be very good."
I laughed and told her I was brand new.
Then I asked one more question.
"Would you be open to receiving a message?"
She said yes.
I didn't have a plan.
I didn't know what I was going to say.
I simply trusted.
For the next twenty minutes, Spirit spoke through me in a way I had never experienced before.
With her permission, I shared messages from her son, who had recently passed. He gently showed me pieces of his life, his struggles, and his deep love for his mother. He wanted her to know he was safe. He wanted her to know he was at peace. He even shared his sense of humour, reminding me that our personalities don't disappear when we leave this world.
When the reading ended, something extraordinary had happened.
Her heart was lighter.
Mine was forever changed.
That day, Spirit didn't just bring healing to a grieving mother.
Spirit brought healing to me.
It wasn't only my first reading.
It was the moment I learned that I didn't need to know what to say.
I only needed to trust what Spirit gently placed into my awareness.
That lesson has stayed with me ever since.
